If you love Guinness, you’ll love the nonalcoholic version. Guinness somehow managed to brew a nearly identical twin without the alcohol.
I’ve been wanting to try Guinness 0 for some time now and when I finally saw it in-store, I jumped at the chance. I first tried Guinness 0 by itself. It’s delicious. It has the same creamy head as the original, same wonderful deep black color, and smells like a dry stout should.
It has a creamy body and malty sweetness with notes of coffee and chocolate. It’s smooth and has a little roast flavor, and no hops. It’s kind of like a malty cold brew with a sweet and slightly fruity finish. This NA brew drinks very easily. Standing on its own, Guinness 0 is a real winner among NA dry stouts.
As the weekend rolled around, I decided to give it a try in a head-to-head contest with regular Guinness. (I am still doing my business sober thing, drinking no alcohol on Sundays through Thursdays, and drinking only a little alcohol with dinner on some weekends.)
WOW!! Guinness 0 comes amazingly close to its alcoholic twin. I’d say Guinness 0 is about 95 percent there.
Regular Guinness has a little more body and tastes slightly rounder. There’s more of a caramel flavor — perhaps the alcohol sugars interacting with the brew.
By comparison, Guinness 0 tastes just a tad bit lighter and fruitier. But not by much. I am thoroughly impressed!
I was able to purchase 4-packs of Guinness 0 at a local mixer store for $9.99. If you’re one of the lucky ones who lives in a state with a Total Wine you may be able to score this NA dry stout for only $7.99 per 4-pack.
At only 75 calories in a large 14.9 fl.oz. can. Guinness 0 is one of lowest calorie NA beers you can buy. Given how amazingly close this NA variety is to its alcoholic twin — while clocking in at less than half the calories (160 calories/can in regular Guinness)— Guinness 0 is a great alternative for those looking to stay sober or lose weight while enjoying that authentic Guinness flavor.
