Eighteen Twenty Brewing Co is a new nonalcoholic brewery out of Portland, Maine. Launched in the summer of 2022, 1820 Brewing Co produces five beers: a blonde ale, an IPA, an American Pale Ale, a dark stout, and a raspberry sour. Four of these brews come in one variety pack. The only one missing is All That Razz raspberry sour.
I review the full variety pack, which packs 3 cans of each of the below featured beers, below:
Wave Finder IPA
A Better Blonde Golden Ale
Peek Interest American Pale Ale
Stand Up & Stout Dark Stout
A Better Blonde is a very approachable nonalcoholic golden ale that makes for easy drinking. This brew has a nice medium mouthfeel that feels like beer. There’s a good amount of malt making this brew taste very bready. It’s surprisingly zesty with a bitter lemongrass finish.
Wave Finder IPA is my favorite in the Eighteen Twenty Brewing lineup. Admittedly, I am a very hoppy girl. This brew is medium hoppy with some maltiness and a dry finish. There’s a citrusy sweetness to it that reminds me of tangy clementines.
Peak interest APA poured the most gorgeous head among all the beers in this variety pack. I love a dense, foamy head that sticks around for a bit. This brew poured a light brown and hazy body with a medium mouthfeel. It tasted woodsy, piney, and slightly hoppy. There was also a sense of burnt rice cracker.
I really struggled with the Stand Up and Stout. I found it quite bitter and acidic but not in an enjoyable way. I opened all three of the cans, wondering if the one I just tried had gotten spoiled. There was a lot of roasted malt that tasted like burnt toast with some coffee and molasses. It also tasted very sour, especially in the middle of the tongue. I found it a bit easier to drink as a second brew, having perhaps acclimated or numbed my tongue somewhat.
I most enjoyed the Free Wave IPA and the A Better Blonde. And I’d love to give the All That Razz raspberry sour a try. I would however go out of my way not to drink that stout again.
